Ann Arbor Area CRIME ALERT: University of Michigan DPS
A female told the Ann Arbor Police that as she was jogging on the west side of Thompson Street, an unknown man grabbed her throat and wrist and pinned her against a tree. She struck the man, he released his grip and she fled.
Women must constantly deal with the threat of being attacked. The above woman was very lucky to escape from her attacker, unfortunately, this is not how all or even most assaults on women end. At the Ann Arbor College of Martial Arts, we are dedicated to teaching you the skills necessary to successfully avoid or handle a dangerous situation.
We are proud to offer a self-defense class designed specifically for women. This class is grounded in our comprehensive, no-nonsense, reality-based self-defense system, but focuses on the twelve most common attacks on women. Our curriculum provides women with the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to defend against bear hugs, chokes, slaps, tackles, thrown to the ground, hair pulling, as well as wrist, lapel and shoulder grabs. Our primary focus is on teaching women how to handle themselves against faster, larger, and stronger attackers by building their fighting spirit and training them how to respond both mentally and physically in a time of need, eliminating the danger of "freezing" or "shutting down" in confrontations.
